The Elevate Teen Back to School BBQ is a Blackstreet Foundation community event designed to bring young people together in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Youth will have the opportunity to reconnect with friends, meet new people and celebrate the start of a new school year through games, food, music and interactive activities. The event is primarily designed for youth ages 10–18, with priority registration for participants from Elevate Teen 2026. Other youth are also welcome, and parents may attend with younger children. Our target is approximately 50 youth. The event will take place on a Saturday in September 2026, with the final date and location to be confirmed.

The Blackstreet Foundation, in partnership with The Lanre Ojelabi Empowerment Foundation in Nigeria, is launching an initiative to empower 100 brilliant students from Abeokuta North whose parents are struggling to afford their education. In 2026, our goal is to fully sponsor their WAEC examinations, giving them the opportunity to pursue higher education and build a better future. Each child costs just $50, and every donation goes directly toward helping a less privileged student take this critical exam. Please join us in making this dream possible. Support recovery for families whose homes, farms, and livelihoods were affected by the hurricane.

On June 25, 2025, ten brilliant students of African Church Grammar School (Afrograms), Ita Eko, Abeokuta, successfully completed their NECO examinations—a major milestone made possible by the Blackstreet Foundation through its LEO Scholarship Initiative. These students showed outstanding academic promise but needed financial support to enroll for the exam. In May 2025, the Foundation stepped in to cover their NECO registration fees, ensuring they had the opportunity to sit for this crucial examination. We proudly celebrate: • Rahmot – A focused science student from Farage, Ibode Olude. • Mary – Intelligent and driven, hailing from Araromi, Obada Oko. • Elizabeth – Bright and determined, from 14 Alaafin Compound. • Gloria – Passionate about learning, from Obaajo Company, Ita Eko. • Omotanwa – Full of ambition and resilience, from Mango, Idi Aba. • Selim – A promising science student from Okebode, Isapon. • Feridah – Hardworking and curious, from Laderin Housing Estate. • Racheal – Full of energy and dreams, based in Ita Oshin. • Funke – Smart and resourceful, from Kuto. • Favour – A goal-oriented science student from Sabo. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to these ten students for successfully completing their exams. This achievement is just the beginning. We believe in your future, and we are confident that you will go on to do great things and make lasting impacts in your communities. That’s why we were honored to support Eagles World Kiddies Nursery & Primary School in Obada Oko, Abeokuta, with funding to purchase 24 new chairs for their students. These chairs may seem like a small thing—but to the children who use them, they represent comfort, dignity, and a better chance to learn in a safe, focused environment. We believe that every child deserves a supportive space to learn and grow. Education is not just a fundamental right—it’s a powerful tool to change lives and shape futures. Elevate Teen 2026 was Blackstreet Foundation’s two-day youth leadership and life-skills summit held in Ottawa on July 3–4, 2026. The program created a safe, engaging and supportive environment where young people ages 10–18 could learn directly from experienced professionals and community leaders. Through interactive workshops and conversations, participants explored financial literacy, mental wellness, leadership, personal safety, self-confidence, career development and other practical skills that complement traditional classroom learning. The event welcomed 56 youth on Day 1 and 41 participants on Day 2, supported by guest speakers and a dedicated team of volunteers contributing more than 150 volunteer hours. With the support of sponsors and community partners, Elevate Teen 2026 strengthened connections between young people, mentors and professionals while giving participants knowledge and tools they can apply in school, at home and in their communities.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa in October 2025, Blackstreet Foundation responded to the devastation in Jamaica by launching a targeted relief initiative to support a family directly affected by the hurricane. The campaign focused on helping 78-year-old Cherry “Laurice” Darling, whose home was severely damaged by the storm. Working alongside family and community supporters, the Foundation launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds toward rebuilding her home, restoring her livelihood and helping her recover with dignity. The estimated cost of rebuilding the home, including materials and labour, was approximately JMD 3 million. The campaign brought together donors who contributed toward that recovery effort, demonstrating Blackstreet Foundation’s commitment to responding to urgent humanitarian needs within Black and Caribbean communities. Although this initiative directly supported one family, its impact went beyond financial assistance. It represented community solidarity, compassion and the belief that meaningful relief can begin by helping one household rebuild after a life-changing disaster.

Lanre Ojelabi Scholarship Initiative 2.0 represented a significant expansion of Blackstreet Foundation’s education-support program in Nigeria. Working with partner secondary schools across the Abeokuta North local government Ogun State, the Foundation supported 98 students by funding their WAEC examination fees. The initiative focused on students whose academic aspirations could have been negatively affected by financial hardship. By covering these essential examination costs, Blackstreet Foundation helped ensure that participating students could complete a critical stage of their secondary education and remain eligible for university, college, vocational training and other future opportunities. Scholarship Initiative 2.0 also strengthened the Foundation’s relationships with schools and local education stakeholders, creating a growing platform for future scholarships, mentorship and educational-support programs.

The Lanre Ojelabi Scholarship Initiative 1.0 began in 2025 as a small but meaningful step toward supporting access to education for young people in Nigeria. To mark Lanre Ojelabi’s birthday that year, Blackstreet Foundation provided financial support to 10 students from his alma mater, African Church Grammar School, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta, helping to cover their secondary school examination fees. The initiative was launched relatively late in the academic cycle, so the first edition was intentionally limited in scope. Rather than waiting for a larger program to be developed, the Foundation chose to start with the opportunity available and support the students it could reach at the time. Although Scholarship Initiative 1.0 was modest in size, it became the starting point for what would grow into a much larger educational support program. It demonstrated a simple principle that continues to guide the initiative: meaningful impact does not always have to begin on a large scale — sometimes, it begins by helping the first few people and building from there. That first group of 10 students laid the foundation for the significant expansion of the Lanre Ojelabi Scholarship Initiative in 2026.
